Un Jardin Verdoyant is an Art Nouveau inspired meditation on the lush vitality of a temperate garden, drawing from the natural abundance of the artist’s garden in Warburton, Victoria. Influenced by the ornamental elegance of Alphonse Mucha and the flowing lines of the genre, the work weaves botanical detail with stylised composition to create a rich, immersive tableau.
Painted in layers of acrylic and oil, the piece unfolds as a verdant tapestry of ferns, moss, rhododendrons, and flowering understory plants. Organic forms emerge gradually through built-up glazes and intricate linework, echoing the sinuous rhythms of nature and the decorative stylisation of Art Nouveau design.
This work is both a homage to the flourishing environment of the Yarra Ranges and a reimagining of it through the lens of a historical artistic movement that celebrated beauty, growth, and natural harmony. Un Jardin Verdoyant invites the viewer to pause, observe, and be drawn into a space where nature's quiet complexity is framed with reverence and intention.
