Terrarium’  is a unique blend of abstraction and realistic detail. It seems a lot of my current work is an exploration of this relationship… for example, my bonsai works, in all their semi-abstract pours for the plant itself, it is contained by a realistic looking pot. This terrarium is something I’ve been thinking of attempting for sometime, as they are similar to bonsai in that they are moss-filled, self-supporting, and other-worldly in their miniature. With this piece, I wanted to explore what element of the painting should be the focus. The realistic glass vessel, or the more abstract plant world it contains.
